– Separate Gain and Clean pots
From soulsonic: “The function of the dual ganged pot is absolutely simple and primitive. When it is turned up, the gain of the “overdrive” circuit is increased while the volume of the parallel clean feed is decreased. When it is turned down, the gain of the overdrive is decreased while the volume of the parallel clean feed is increased. This is obvious in any version of the schematic, even the 10 years old “secret” schematics show this clearly.” (http://freestompboxes.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=23353)
Some klones sound notably bigger or broader to me than others do. I’m wondering how much of that is in the clean/gain blend as affected by the drift in the actual value of either gang.
– 1994 specs on switch
Actually, this is only going to be one resistor, but it’s the only one that should have any tonal impact on the circuit. The less important resistors can be to regular specs.
While not official, I want to try a switchable input cap to let more bass through. I have no idea what the real Bass Centaur is like, so the idea is from the Aion Refractor build doc.
– Diode switching
This goes without saying for any Lab-type pedal.
