This is the front end to my board, housed in a 1590XX/1790NS. I’ve found the Decimator works best as the first thing in the chain, despite what the manual says. It also does a great job of keeping the compressor from boosting any noise, and it’s completely transparent to boot. I haven’t tried the G-String yet, but I’ve never felt I needed anything more than the regular version. The Engineer’s Thumb is a great compressor by Merlin. He took the basic idea behind the Ross-style comps and improved on it in almost every aspect.
